![]() ![]() Then I heard there was going to be an animated movie. ![]() I was excited for the short animated series to come out but unfortunately it was a flop. I've been a fan of the ao oni game for a long time. Second if you haven't seen the movie here's a tip. First and foremost this review will contain spoilers. I'd like to start off this review with a few warnings. Avoid this and the comedy shorts, watch something better. This is the worst thing I've ever seen and if I could give myself amnesia so I could forget this, I would. I get more enjoyment from watching paint dry. I don't even remember their names.Įnjoyment: I hate every single second. There's no way you can form connections with the characters or even like them. There's zero character development, the characters are one-dimensional, boring and have the personality of a gnat. Honestly I wonder whether the voice actors will have careers after this.Ĭharacters: The characters in this movie aren't Hiroshi & co, but a bunch of new characters. I had to pause every few minutes just to take a break. The music is irritating and drove me to despair. Sound: The voice acting is pretty decent but not great. It's also in 3D, not that watching it in 3D makes it any better or easier to get through. And the animation of the monster is just terrible. The expressions of the character are poor and almost ridiculous even by anime standards and the characters move slow and stiff like machinery. Needless to say, Studio Deen have kept up their trope of animating badly, leaving the series looking like a slightly updated version of MMD. I was hardly surprised when I found out they were responsible. There is a story there somewhere, but it's lost in the boring, awkward telling.Īnimation: Studio Deen, who brought us such animation fail classics like Axis Powers Hetalia and Higurashi, are the animators of this. It takes place in a school, not in the usual mansion. The majority of the hour long movie is the characters sitting around talking and nothing happening. Story: This is apparently a story based off the game too bad there is no story. The comedy shorts are a masterpiece compared to this tripe. If you thought the Ao Oni comedy shorts were bad, wait until you see this - it's even worse. ![]() If you're an Ao Oni fan and you're really curious, then maybe watch it. Overall, it's awkward, cheap-looking, and boring. The music isn't good except for the music during the end-credits which is actually alright. With this kind of animation and choppiness, you would fail a 3D animation course. The animation itself is awkward and looks very unnatural. They must have decided to render it out with a lower frame-rate to make it appear more like traditional 2D animation. In most 3D animation software, tweening is very easy and automatic. Most of the time it has an average of about seven frames per second. It's very choppy making it unpleasant to look at. They had plenty of time to make them likeable before the threat comes into play but nope. The characters aren't likeable or interesting. Every scene feels like it was slowed down. The plot isn't terrible but the execution is very poor. ![]() That's basically all it has in common with the source material. It has the monster, the chase music, and they talk about 'Ao Oni' being a video-game. Sadly, it has very little to do with the game. Many fans would love to see a good horror-movie based on the game 'Ao Oni' but instead they get this. ![]()
